Revealed: 3 Interesting Features of the New ID Card “Ghana Card” You Probably Don’t Know About

In fulfilling a campaign promise, President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, launched the new National Identification Card on Friday, 15th September 2017 in a ceremony at the National Identification Authority Headquarters.

The President and his Vice were the first two Ghanaian to receive the new National Identification Card which has been dubbed the “Ghana Card”.

According to the National Identification Authority CEO – Professor Ken Ateffuah, massive registration exercise for the new card will begin in November. Unlike the previous attempt, citizens home and abroad will be issued the card instantly.

The “Ghana Card” has some interesting features you probably don’t know about.

Features

  • When you get the “Ghana Card” you will no longer need Driver’s License, Voter’s ID & Health Insurance Card – because the single will grant you the chance of transacting any business at any place.
  • Another interesting feature is that the days of struggling and going all the troubles such as people promising you to get you a passport in 5 days are over. The Ghana card contains an ECOWAS logo – meaning you can travel to any ECOWAS country with this card without any wahala.
  • Finally, online transaction will be made easier with new card – because your bank account number will be registered on it. It will allow you to transact all online businesses.

According to the CEO of NIA, the new card is expected to have a lifespan of 10 years which is renewable at a fee yet to be determined by Authority.

This new National Identification Card dubbed “Ghana Card” is certainly going to bring an improvement in the way transactions are done in the country thereby reducing all the stress and long queues Ghanaians go through before getting any activity done.
